Breaking news: Odd Roads partners with Sheila Foundation

Updated: May 27, 2021

We are delighted to announce that for the reprint, we have partnered with Sheila: A Foundation for Women in Visual Art. As part of our partnership, all profits from the sales of the reprint will go to the Sheila Foundation.

To date, Sheila has been instrumental in the recognition and recovery of many ‘forgotten’ women of Australian art.

Sheila: A Foundation for Women in Visual Art

Sheila is a national foundation that addresses the historical and continuing gender bias against women in Australian art. It aims to paint women artists back into our history, assist and celebrate contemporary women artists and support the unique Cruthers Collection of Women’s Art at

The University of Western Australia.

John Cruthers, chair of Sheila , says "We are delighted to be partnering with Paul Finucane and Catherine Stuart on the first reprint of their publication Odd Roads to be Walking, and applaud their generosity in directing all profits to Sheila.

Their book and the role of Sheila have a substantial overlap. Our project Into the Light: Recovering Australia’s lost women artists 1870-1960, is a national data gathering exercise that will collect and make available information on generations of professional women artists whose work has slipped from view. Many of them are featured in the book, which like Sheila is doing its part in rewriting the story of Australian art. It is particularly appropriate that the book’s profits will help fund this project."

If you would like to support Into the Light, you can make a donation to Sheila Foundation here, or join our Into the Light donor circle here. Donors contribute $2,000pa for three years, the funds going to the purchase of artworks by lesser known women artists uncovered in our research."
